Though recording an interview can be an emotional experience, most participants find it a meaningful one. We hope our process is as easy and comfortable as possible.

Step 1: Make a reservation.

StoryCorps interviews are designed to be conversations between people who are part of each other’s lives. Your interview partner can be anyone with whom you feel comfortable - for example, a family member or friend. Should you choose to come alone, a StoryCorps facilitator can interview you. Once you’ve decided who is coming to the interview, find a location and make a reservation (see below).

Phone reservations: 646-723-7027
StoryCorps staff are on-hand 9:30 AM-5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, to walk you through our reservation process. You can also leave a message and someone will return your call to schedule your interview. Please state that you are calling about the September 11th Initiative to receive priority access to reservations.

Step 2: Prepare for your session

Read what to expect at a StoryCorps interview and visit our suggested questions list.

Step 3: Tell your story, pass it on.

Come to the StoryBooth. Our trained Facilitator will explain the process, make you feel comfortable, and sit with you during your 40-minute session. At the end of your session, you’ll receive a free broadcast-quality CD to pass along to family and friends. A second copy will be archived at the Library of Congress. If you come alone, a facilitator will act as your interviewer.

The September 11th Initiative is done in partnership with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center

All interviews recorded as part of the September 11th Initiative are archived at both the National September 11 Museum and the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
