StoryCorps Griot began as a one-year initiative funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to collect the stories of 1,750 African Americans.

On February 7, 2007, we launched the GriotBooth - an Airstream trailer outfitted with a traveling recording studio - with a press conference in Washington, D.C. The Griot Tour ended on February 16, 2008 in Montgomery, Alabama. StoryCorps partnered with groups and organizations all over the country to record over 1,800 stories of African Americans across the country.

Read press from our year-long tour and follow the travels of the GriotBooth and its facilitators on the StoryCorps Griot blog.  Or click on a city name below to view blog posts from that location.
