Celebrate the National Day of Listening

Download a Do-It-Yourself Instruction Guide

This holiday season, StoryCorps is asking everyone across the nation to take an hour on Friday, November 28, 2008, the day after Thanksgiving, to record and preserve a Do-It-Yourself interview with a loved one at home or in your community center. It can be a grandparent, sibling, friend, or a familiar face from the neighborhood.

All you have to do is download your free Do-It-Yourself Instruction Guide, complete with simple step-by-step instructions for recording and preserving interviews at home, watch our new DIY video, and find the person’s story who you want to hear.

Then review our list of recording tips and equipment recommendations for conducting interviews at home or in your community center.

At this time, StoryCorps only has the capacity to archive interviews recorded with StoryCorps equipment. However, you can use your DIY recordings to start your own archive. Our DIY Instruction Guide will show you how.

Read our book, Listening Is an Act of Love

StoryCorps founder Dave Isay selected memorable stories from the StoryCorps collection and arranged them thematically into a moving portrait of American life.

When you purchase the book and companion CD (sold separately), 100% of the royalties will go toward our mission as an independent non-profit organization. Order from the StoryCorps website and we receive an additional portion of the sales.
