A limited number of StoryKits are available for rent through our StoryKit program. These kits are designed for interviews much like those that take place in our booths: meaningful conversations between just two or three people. We reserve them for individuals rather than for group projects. A StoryKit is a wonderful way to bring StoryCorps to your home and learn how to record your story with the people most important to you.

Each StoryKit includes:

• Professional digital recorder
• Two 40 minute memory cards
• Professional-quality microphone
• Studio-grade headphones
• StoryKit User’s Guide

A seven-day rental costs $150*, plus a $500 security hold on your credit card, which will be refunded upon return of the StoryKit. This fee includes shipping both ways and a copy of your interview on CD. We will mail your CD to you after you have returned the StoryKit, memory cards, and necessary paperwork. An additional copy of your interview will become part of the StoryCorps Archive at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

You can record one 40 minute interview on each memory card. If you wish to record more than two interviews, you can rent up to two additional memory cards, which we will add to your StoryKit for $20 each. This fee helps to cover processing and handling.

*This service is available free of charge for participants in the Memory Loss Initiative. We must still hold the refundable security charge, but the rental fee is waived. If you would like to participate in the Memory Loss Initiative through the StoryKit program, please submit an email request following the instructions below. Please mention in the email your interest in participating in this initiative.

To request a StoryKit:

1. Read the StoryKit policies and procedures.
2. You can use our online request form to reserve a StoryKit. You’ll need to include:

• Your name
• Phone Number
• Address of delivery (StoryKit must be signed for at time of delivery)
• Dates (7 days) you are interested in reserving a StoryKit

Our StoryKits are popular and often times are booked out a couple months.  Please plan your StoryKit reservation with advance notice so we can accommodate you.  A StoryCorps staff member will contact you to finalize your reservation and to answer any questions you may have about the StoryKit or our policies and procedures .
