StoryCorps Alaska is a six-month initiative to collect and record the diverse voices and life experiences of Alaskans. Sharing these stories honors our history, encourages appreciation of our traditions and our Elders, and captures the true spirit of our community. By celebrating our shared humanity and collective identity, StoryCorps Alaska will help ensure the rich heritage of Alaskans will be preserved and presented with dignity.
A StoryCorps interview is a 40-minute conversation between people who know each other. It is also a conversation in which the participants choose what they want to talk about. At the end of the interview, participants will receive a free broadcast-quality CD and a copy of the interview will be archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
From October 15, 2008, through April 30, 2009, StoryCorps staff will facilitate interviews, hosted by local community-based organizations, in Fairbanks, Nome, Barrow, Dillingham, Unalaska and Juneau.

Bring your community into StoryCorps
StoryCorps Alaska is partnering with the Alaska Public Radio Network, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and other community organizations and groups.
Our hope is that you can connect StoryCorps to community groups and organizations, including your own, that will help us bring potential participants into the StoryCorps experience. Organizations that partner with StoryCorps Alaska will receive an archive of all interview materials collected through their assistance.
If your organization is interested in becoming a StoryCorps Alaska community partner, please contact Amy Marsh at amarsh@storycorps.net.
