This mosque, in Ross, North Dakota, was the first to be built on American soil. The original building (which burned down recently) was erected in the late 1800s by immigrants from Syria/Lebanon.

    When you say “burned down recently” do you mean “accidentally caught fire” or “was burned down by an angry mob?”

    It was torn down in the presidency of Jimmy Carter by descendants of the orignal builder. The work “Taking Roots” documents it in the chapter “Mosque on the Prarir”.
