Position Overview:
StoryCorps’ mission is to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening. StoryCorps seeks a full-time Production Assistant to work in their offices in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. StoryCorps is a widely acclaimed national oral-history project that celebrates our shared humanity and collective identity. Created by the award-winning non-profit documentary company Sound Portraits Productions (www.soundportraits.org), StoryCorps is the largest oral-history project ever undertaken.
Each week stories from the project air on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition. The Production Assistant will provide administrative and technical support to the production department, who produce these broadcasts as well as additional content for internal use; the person will also be charged with guiding staff who facilitate interviews in editing short audio pieces. There will be opportunities for the Production Assistant to work directly with tape; however the job also has a large administrative component.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide general administrative and technical support to the production team
- Post audio to the StoryCorps website
- Manage weekly backup of our StoryCorps content
- Track and file all interview materials from all StoryCorps tiers of service
- Schedule and supervise Facilitator edit sessions
- Upload audio for distribution and maintain FTP site
- Edit StoryCorps interviews using ProTools
Knowledge, Skills and qualifications
- 1-2 years experience in an editorial environment
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in an deadline driven environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong teamwork skills
- Working knowledge of ProTools or a similar digital audio editing program required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, email, and Adobe Photoshop
- Proficiency on a Mac platform is preferred
- Basic skills or fluency in a language other than English is useful
- B.A. required
