Position Overview:
StoryCorps’ mission is to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening. The Manager of the MobileBooth Department is responsible for overseeing and continuously improving all aspects of StoryCorps’s national MobileBooth tours, including occasional MobileBooth stops provided to partners on a fee-for-service basis. The number of MobileBooths in operation and the number of fee-for-service stops are expected to grow in the coming years. The Manager creates annual tour plans, sets annual goals for the department that support StoryCorps’s strategic vision, and tracks the status of goals to ensure their achievement. The Manager oversees the work of two senior coordinators, who in turn oversee teams of Site supervisors and Facilitators who stay on the road with each MobileBooth. The Manager is responsible for ensuring the cultivation of relationships with partner radio stations and community organizations in each tour city. The Manager collaborates with other department Managers at StoryCorps to maximize the impact of the MobileBooth stop in each community and support interdepartmental outreach efforts. The Manager reports to the Director of StoryCorps.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise a team responsible for implementing each tour stop
- Create and plan annual tour routes; responsible for maximizing diversity of interviews
- Maintain excellent relationships with stations and towns on the tour
- Provide follow up with partners to cultivate a national StoryCorps network of partners
- Plan and oversee community outreach work to ensure participation by a broad spectrum of people
- Liaise with the Facilities and Archives department to ensure effective ongoing maintenance of each MobileBooth and respond to any emergencies on the road
- Regularly evaluate policies, procedures, and systems that support MobileBooth operations
- Deliver accurate and timely reports on all MobileBooth Department activities for internal stakeholders and the StoryCorps Board
- Provide assistance on shared StoryCorps initiatives, training, and new projects
- Ensure annual departmental interview and outreach goals are met or exceeded
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years experience supervising staff
- Experience in staff evaluation and training
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail
- Must be comfortable learning and using new technology
- Strong conflict resolution and teamwork skills
- Basic skills or fluency in a language other than English is preferred. Fluent Spanish language skills are strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software. Proficiency on a Mac platform is preferred
- Must be a proactive problem-solver; adaptive to growing, changing organization
- Bachelor’s degree required. Experience in oral history, documentary work, or public radio a plus
