Community Outreach Intern

StoryCorps Community Outreach works to bring the StoryCorps experience to a diverse pool of participants.  Through New York City outreach and special initiatives like the Memory Loss Initiative, the Community Outreach team is able to provide access to people who would otherwise have barriers to participation. As an intern, you will aid the Community Outreach Team in messaging StoryCorps to organizations and participants. To learn more about outreach at StoryCorps, visit www.storycorps.net/special-initiatives.

Projects may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Research and identify new outreach opportunities in New York City and national initiatives.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with organizations in the New York City Area.
  • Assist in managing current contacts through meetings and in-office correspondence.
  • Correspond and speak with StoryCorps participants.
  • Attend weekly Community Outreach Meetings.
  • Prepare and participant in outreach presentations.
  • General administrative tasks as needed.

At the end of the internship, interns will have extensive knowledge of community organization, public speaking skills, and experience working in a mid-sized non-profit.

Resourcefulness, strong attention to detail, ability to take initiative and to work both independently and as a team are vital. Familiarity with Excel and/or FileMaker Pro is a plus.  Knowledge of community-based organizations is also a plus, but not required.
