Position Overview:
StoryCorps and its parent organization, Sound Portraits Productions, are looking for a full-time Human Resources Generalist to work in their offices in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The Human Resources Generalist will coordinate StoryCorps ongoing training projects, in addition to general Human Resources activities. These include but are not limited to researching and recommending benefit options, assisting in the recruitment and retention of StoryCorps employees, and assisting in processing payroll. StoryCorps is a widely acclaimed national oral-history project that celebrates our shared humanity and collective identity. Created by the award-winning non-profit documentary company Sound Portraits Productions (www.soundportraits.org), StoryCorps is the largest oral-history project ever undertaken. The Human Resources Generalist will report to the Human Resources Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates StoryCorps training processes in conjunction with Human Resources Manager (On boarding training, technical/computer training, Facilitator Training, continuing education training, etc.)
- Assists in the implementation and administration of employee benefit programs such as health insurance, disability insurance, workers’ compensation, employee assistance, retirement and other plans
- Researches and makes recommendations on new human resources programs and initiatives
- Manages early stages of recruitment processes including resume reviews, phone screens, candidate communications with Part-Time Coordinator
- Drafts and edits human resources documents (hire letters, termination notices, disciplinary notices, etc.)
- Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from these information sources as requested by Human Resource Manager
- Maintains compliance with federal and state employment regulations
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:
- 1-2 years human resources experience (recruitment, benefits administration, and HRIS system)
- Knowledge of state and federal employment laws preferred
- Demonstrated ability to function exceptionally in rapidly growing and fast-paced work environment, and deal effectively with numerous simultaneous requirements
- Ability to work independently as well as part of team
- BA/BS or equivalent required
